Some time ago, it became apparent that those on the religious left were willing being used to advance an agenda that contradicted historical and biblical Christianity. The Power in the Pulpit Initiative was birthed to organize pastors true to the Scriptures, to raise their collective voice in pulpits across New York, in the culture at large, and in the halls of our State Capitol (Albany, NY).
In June 2008, while the New York State Legislature was facing pressure to pass same-sex marriage legislation, over 400 Evangelical and Pentecostal ministers came together to say that marriage is between a man and a woman. This was the first "Power in the Pulpit" rally.
Today there are nearly 1,000 ministers ready to respond when called upon to advocate for the sacredness of marriage, the sanctity of human life, and the supremacy of God's Word.
Who We AreWe are evangelical and/or fundamental ministers from all across New York State. We come from different backgrounds and serve in several different denominations – Assemblies of God, Baptist, Bible churches, Nazarenes, Evangelical Free, Wesleyan, independents, and others. We each have our own distinctions, but we have four basic things in common. A Supreme Calling"Preach the Word!" Each of us takes seriously the charge given to us by the Holy Spirit, when He called us into the ministry. A Set of ConvictionsWe are not doctrinal clones and we recognize that we will differ in some of our biblical interpretations. But when it comes to the fundamentals of the faith, we are one. A Spirit of CooperationWe believe that God has called each of us to minister somewhere in the State of New York. We believe that each of us has our place in God’s kingdom, and that we should work together in the “spirit of unity” with love and respect for one another. This does not mean “conformity”, since we all have our differences. It does mean that we recognize the fact that in Christ, we are all brothers with the same Lord, the same Holy Spirit, and the same Heavenly Father.
We are coming together, not to join an organization, but to promote a common cause –the defense of traditional marriage and morality.
We are committed to praying, preaching and partnering with New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms to further this cause. An Assured ConfidenceWe believe as Benjamin Franklin reminded the Constitutional Convention in 1787, “God rules in the affairs of men.” |
